Monologue

World History

This project was called the Monologue Project where you had to pick a country, under imperial rule, and perform on stage about the experience they might have had in that time. During this project, I grew in communication because I had to speak in front of my whole class. At the beginning of the year, I always got nervous speaking in front of small groups but after speaking to a large group of people my communication skills are enhanced. First, we had to know the event in first person and to try to feel what the character would have been feeling. For this project, many steps were involved. The first step was to learn about each country, to do this we took notes and researched about the countries and events they had under imperial rule. The second step was to pick the country that was the most meaningful to you. The third step was to write a script about the event. The fourth step was to write multiple drafts of the script, perform, and memorize the script constantly before going on stage. Last step was act out what it would have been like if we were in that event. Throughout this project, I learned time management, communication and memorization skills. The biggest strength from the three was communication. I used communication a lot throughout this project because I had to speak in front of a big group, so I had to communicate my thoughts to the audience without embarrassing myself.

My first artifact to show communication is the monologue script, this artifact shows how the character developed through the script and the feel of how I will be acting. I also used memorization skills because we had to memorize the essay and deliver it like the character you wanted to show. The script helped with my memorization skills because as I was practicing whenever I forget my lines I could just look back at my script and say the line again. Terminology I learned through this artifact is Sepoys, which are Indian citizens, working for the British Army. This relates to this artifact because I have a sentence in my monologue explaining a little about the Sepoys. The sentence is, “Our own people are part of this killing.” This sentence tells us that there were Indians who were killing their own people.

My second artifact to show communication are my notes, my notes allowed me to know the content better and I could understand it whenever I went to look back to read my notes. These notes were about different events and countries under Imperial Rule. The notes helped me with communication because from reading the notes I knew how to deliver my lines better. This artifact or evidence supports the strength because it allows me to deliver my lines better and I could read the notes again and again, so the content is always fresh in my mind. Some terminology I learned with this artifact is partition meaning the act of one country being divided into parts. My notes talk about this term; there was a partition between Pakistan and India, before they were one country. After their conflicts they divided, the two countries had two different government from then on.

My last artifact to show communication is the teacher feedback. This feedback allowed me to improve on the development of my character and my acting. The feedback helped my communication skills get better because the teacher was being very picky about certain acts I did and helped me improve upon those acts. The teacher also gave me feedback about how to deliver the lines correctly and how to say it. An example of this is that at the end of my monologue I get shot and die, my teacher showed me the correct way to act when I get shot. Throughout the process of this artifact the teacher helped me a lot and boosted my communication skill, so I am not too nervous on stage.

Throughout this project, communication has been my strength, before I had zero communication skills and now, I can speak to large groups with breeze. The three artifacts that helped me with memorization skills and communication skills are the script, my notes, and the feedback from my teacher. From this project I learned a lot of new content and terminology. I think communication will really be helpful in the real world because I am going to have to speak to many business partners at my job and succeed in them.
